On 30 January 2019, the Office of the Commissioner of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in HKSAR presented the “Friends of Diplomacy” Award to Dr. Jonathan Choi who was one of the four awardees. This is the first time for the Commissioner’s Office to present the award since its inauguration in 1997. The four “Friends of Diplomacy” are representatives of the Hong Kong compatriots who have made remarkable contribution to China’s diplomacy and Hong Kong- related diplomatic work.
Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Tung Chee Hwa and CY Leung, Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR Wang Zhi-ming and Commissioner Xie Feng officiated the Ceremony and presented the Awards.
Commissioner Xie Feng in his remarks appreciated Dr. Choi as a noble leader and of high prestige and as an excellent “non-governmental ambassador” with global vision. In developing the Belt and Road and the Greater Bay Area, Dr. Choi leads the Hong Kong industrial and business sectors for exchanges and co-operations, thus giving him the name of “Mr. ASEAN” and “Mr. Belt and Road”. Dr. Choi has supported China’s diplomacy and made noticeable contribution to promoting national interests, national image and China’s exchanges and co-operation with the world over the years.
